The Vintage: The summer we experienced in the Lake Chelan basin made for a growing season which was quite good. From start to finish, conditions existed throughout Washington State which resulted in perfectly ripened wine grapes. The Grape Source: The grapes used to make this wine were harvested from the two Lake Chelan Valley vineyards. The sources were our Home Estate vineyard and the Clo Chevalle vineyard. Each site proffered a portion of what made this wine the exceptional Gewurztraminer it represents. The Home vineyard is a fairly warm site while the Clo Chevalle is a cool location. The combination of these two vineyards resulted in classic Gewurztraminer character in the finished wine. The Winemaking: The grapes were hand harvested and whole cluster pressed. The freshly pressed juice was fined with bentonite and cold settled for two days prior to being racked to a stainless steel tank for the primary fermentation. The Swiss yeast strain Wadenswil 15 was used to ferment the juice. Fermentation was conducted at a low 45 to 55 degree Fahrenheit range to preserve the beautiful flavors and aromatics. As this wine possesses residual sugar it was tightly filtered at bottling. The Wine: The color is that of light straw. This Gewurztraminer has classic German cool climate presentation. One will find fabulous spice, ripe stone fruits plus a dash of peach and lemon aromas and flavors. This wine, though semi - sweet, is still firm on the palate. A great summer thirst quencher when served with sandwiches or without food. Our 2008 Gewurztraminer possesses a solid 4 to 5 years of cellar potential. Serve well chilled. % Alcohol: 13.0% pH: 3.12 Acidity: 6.6g/liter Residual sugar: 16g/liter (1.6%) Cases produced: 550 Blend: 100% Gewurztraminer
