The Vintage: 2006 was an excellent growing season. The Chelan area vineyards experienced ideal warm – dry summer and moderate late-summer early-fall weather. Our Estate Pinot Grapes were harvested late December under sunny skies with temperatures in the mid - thirties. The grape maturity data was; Brix = 38.4, Acidity = 7.6g/liter and the pH = 3.57. Excellent numbers across the board! The berries were rich in flavor. The Vineyard: All of the grapes used to make this wine were harvested from our Estate Home and Harding vineyards. The Harding and Home vineyards are located on the north shore of Lake Chelan east of Manson. The soils are a deep gravelly type which was deposited by the most recent glacier to pass through the area some 12,000 years ago. The Winemaking: One hundred percent of the grapes used to craft this wine were hand picked and sorted yet again by hand prior to being destemmed and gently crushed. Twenty percent of the berries were left whole at crushing. The yeast strain RB2 was used to conduct the slow cold fermentation. The fruit was fermented on the skins for four days prior to being pressed. This wine was tightly filtered at bottling. The Wine: A gorgeous coral pink color pours into one’s glass. Aromas of ripe raspberry, honey, cherries and strawberries jump from the wine. The body is quite full. The finish is long and richly textured. Match with fresh seasonal berries, caviar or blue cheeses. A solid seven to ten years of cellar potential exist with this fine wine.
